Alysson
Aston Villa have kickstarted the January transfer window with the acquisition of Brazilian winger Alysson from Grêmio. The deal, which had been in the works since December, was finalized on the opening day of the winter window. The 19-year-old forward, known for his agility and skill on the right flank, joins Villa for a reported fee of £10.5 million. However, it remains uncertain whether Alysson will immediately join Unai Emery’s squad, be loaned out, or play within the club’s youth setup.
Aston Villa said: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of 19-year-old Brazilian Alysson from Grêmio. An exciting young winger, Alysson came through the academy system at the Porto Alegre club, making his debut in July 2024. Alysson became a regular for Grêmio, registering 34 league appearances last season.”
The financial structure of the deal includes an initial payment of £8.7 million with potential add-ons of £1.8 million. Additionally, Grêmio retains a ten percent sell-on clause. Alysson’s performance last season was notable, with two goals and five assists in 43 appearances, showcasing his potential to make an impact in the Premier League.
Alysson’s arrival adds depth to Villa’s attacking options, joining the likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, Evann Guessand, Jadon Sancho, Donyell Malen, and Emiliano Buendia. Unai Emery has hinted at further activity in the transfer market, emphasizing the club’s proactive approach.
Unai Emery said: “We are alert. The club is working and if we can sign someone to help us and improve on something we need, we will do it.”
The signing comes on the heels of Villa’s recent 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, which halted their impressive run of 11 consecutive Premier League victories. Despite the setback, Villa remains a formidable force, currently positioned behind Arsenal and Manchester City in the league standings. The team is set to return to Villa Park to face Nottingham Forest, aiming to regain their momentum.
This strategic acquisition reflects Aston Villa’s commitment to strengthening their squad with promising talent, as they continue to compete at the highest level in English football.
