Ian Wright believes Leicester City midfielder Harvey Barnes has a great chance of being called up to England’s European Championships squad next summer. Barnes scored his first goal of the 2020/21 Premier League season in the first-half of the Foxes’ 4-2 win over Burnley on Sunday evening. After some fine work from Jamie Vardy, the ball was then played to Timothy Castagne who laid it off for Barnes, and he finished coolly past Nick Pope. The 22-year-old comes into this season after an impressive campaign last time out – with 14 goal contributions in 36 league appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side. Wright, when speaking on BBC’s live coverage of the clash, heaped praise on the Leicester star and backed him to be called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad next summer.
Ian Wright said: “He’s not shy to shoot and if he can just stay away from injury and get that consistent game-time, then I think he’s got more than a good chance (to make England’s Euros squad).”
