Elliot Anderson
The 23-year-old Elliot Anderson has become a hot commodity in the football transfer market, thanks to his exceptional performances for both club and country this season. After Declan Rice’s high-profile transfer across the capital for over £100 million in the summer of 2023, similar figures are being speculated for Anderson. The Nottingham Forest star’s market value has attracted interest from top Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. Nottingham Forest, however, remains keen on retaining their prized asset, with owner Evangelos Marinakis fully aware of Anderson’s worth.
Jermaine Jenas said: “I think we’ve seen in today’s era that everyone has a number, but I think from Elliot Anderson’s point of view he is thriving. He is now a leader in that (Forest) team. He’s got himself into the England set-up. You can only go off certain market values. Declan Rice goes for like £105 million from West Ham at probably a very similar point in his career to Elliot Anderson, if you know what I mean. He was really developing at West Ham in the England setup, playing more regularly than Elliot. So, you know, if Elliot went for less than £60 or £70 million, I’d be surprised.”
Jenas added: “I watched him at Newcastle and I couldn’t believe Newcastle had to let him go, but obviously with the financial fair play stuff they had to get rid. But it would take a lot of money, especially when you’ve got an owner at Forest that doesn’t need to sell him.”
Sean Dyche said: “There are always stories about players and clubs possibly trying to buy players. That happens at every club. This club is no different. You are going to have people looking at the players because they have got some very good players – that’s part and parcel of the business. We are looking at other people’s players by the way, so there you go! That’s how simple it is! I’m not bothered about (the Anderson transfer rumours), I just want him to enjoy his football. He is still a young player.”
Anderson’s journey to becoming a sought-after talent began with his move from Newcastle United to Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2024 for a £35 million fee. This deal was effectively reduced to £15 million when Odysseas Vlachodimos transferred in the opposite direction for £20 million. Despite Newcastle United’s interest in reacquiring their academy graduate, Forest’s financial stability under Marinakis means they are under no pressure to sell.
The ongoing speculation surrounding Anderson’s future highlights the competitive nature of the transfer market, where clubs are constantly on the lookout for emerging talents. While Forest is determined to hold onto their asset, the interest from Premier League giants underscores Anderson’s rising stock in the football world. As the January transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether any club will meet Forest’s valuation of the young midfielder.
