Mo Salah
Liverpool’s star forward, Mohamed Salah, returned to the squad for their 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion after being benched for the Champions League clash against Inter Milan. The decision to drop Salah followed his controversial comments after the draw with Leeds United, where he expressed feeling “thrown under the bus” by the club. As Salah prepares to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), discussions between the club and his representatives continue, with speculation surrounding his future at Anfield.
Arne Slot said: “I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season. The big thing in my mind is are we going to see from now until the end of the season? Now we know he is going to AFCON. AFCON will finish in mid-January. Now it is obvious that he has got an issue with the manager.”
He added: “But I want to give credit to the manager. But he thought it is bigger than me and it is about the team, and it is more important that Mo Salah is on the bench, and he made a contribution in the second-half.”
He continued: “Last week I was giving advice to Mo Salah and his agent, and I am going to do it again because what you saw at the end of the game against Brighton was Mo Salah (doing) a lap of appreciation, a little bit emotional with the Kop there, and he’s probably not sure himself if that is his last time at Anfield.”
He concluded: “Now Mo Salah is not going to leave Liverpool to go to Barcelona or Real Madrid; I have just mentioned the Saudi league. Now Liverpool in the second-half of the season, they could get to an FA Cup final. They could get to the Champions League final. But does Mo Salah deserve more than that as a Liverpool player? He deserves a guard of honour. He deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his wife, kids and family on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate what he has done as a Liverpool player.”
Salah’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, with rumors linking him to a potential move to the Saudi league. While the club continues to negotiate with his representatives, Salah’s recent emotional gestures at Anfield have fueled speculation about his departure. The Egyptian forward’s contributions to Liverpool have been monumental, and many believe he deserves a grand farewell, should he decide to leave.
As Salah heads to AFCON, Liverpool faces a crucial period in their season, with potential appearances in both the FA Cup and Champions League finals. The club’s management and fans alike will be keenly observing how the situation unfolds, hoping for a resolution that honors Salah’s legacy at Anfield.
