Nottingham Forest find themselves in 16th place in the standings as they prepare for their crucial clash against Utrecht. A victory would not only boost their position but also secure a direct passage to the round of 16 in the tournament, thereby avoiding additional play-off games. This comes as a relief for a squad currently grappling with injuries. However, manager Sean Dyche emphasized that his primary focus remains on performance and winning games.
Sean Dyche said: “The target at the moment is to have that clear view of performing and winning games. You can’t guarantee that alone. I have never been one for looking at we’re going to do this and we’re going to do that. The next one is the most important one. I have made sure the players are aware of that. We have parked the last one in the league (Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Everton) and are moving on to this one. If you take care of yourself by winning games, the rest of it falls into place.”
Dyche continued: “I always speak to the players about the ups and downs, the ins and outs, but the facts are the facts – the schedule is not going to change. That is the challenge. No one will be able to see your personal information and you will only receive messages from the NottinghamshireLive Reds writers.”
He added: “We have got some very good players here who haven’t started all the Premier League games, but they are still very good players. The obvious challenge has been the injury list – although it is beginning to get better. We have lost Yatesy, but we have got (Luiz, Zinchenko and Bakwa here, and it is pleasing to see them back in the squad. We have got to try to manage them through this crossover period to total fitness, which is the next step. But I think we have shown the team can operate well. When I got here, I spoke to the squad about the squad mentality. We are going to need that with all these games, and particularly over this winter period. The squad has shown they are up for it with their performances. We have got to find that balance again tomorrow night.”
Forest’s current injury woes include midfielder Ryan Yates, who is sidelined with a hamstring issue, and goalkeeper Matz Sels, who is out due to a groin injury. Despite these setbacks, Dyche is optimistic about the squad’s depth and the return of key players like Luiz, Zinchenko, and Bakwa. The manager is keen on maintaining a squad mentality, which he believes is crucial during this demanding winter period.
The match against Utrecht is not only pivotal for securing a better position in the standings but also for building momentum and confidence within the team. As Forest looks to find the right balance in their lineup, the focus remains on executing a strong performance that can propel them into the top eight and beyond.
