Everton Goodison Park Away Stand
In a heartwarming gesture, Everton FC, in collaboration with their official retail partner Fanatics, extended a helping hand to a family who tragically lost their home and cherished memorabilia in a fire. The Reavey family, lifelong Everton supporters, were left devastated after the blaze destroyed their possessions, including irreplaceable Everton memorabilia and mementoes from the 1966 World Cup held at Goodison Park. In a bid to restore some joy, Everton’s first-team players presented the family with gifts to replace the lost items, including Everton-themed bedroom accessories and even a special dog bowl for their pet Tilly, who had heroically alerted the family to the fire, allowing them to escape unharmed.
Adam Reavey said: “The lengths people have gone to, just to make sure we’re okay and make this all happen. Every part of it’s been absolutely amazing, more than you could ever think.”
Adam Reavey added: “It’s probably the hardest time that I’ve been through in my life. There’s nothing left of anything, really. Even if it was there, it is so badly smoke-damaged you can’t use it, so we pretty much lost everything. At first, the kids were really strong. But then it’s the little things that they don’t realise they’ve lost and all stuff they’ve collected that you can’t get back.”
Adam Reavey continued: “Just from an Everton point of view, we’ve lost some special things. All of my shirts I’ve kept from when I was down at Charlie’s age to the last game of the season, along with the programmes and the scarves. Charlie kept a programme from every game he’d been to, so they’ve gone. All the teddies he’s collected and Milly’s shirts right from when she was newborn, all the way up, were in her wardrobe, so they’re all gone. So, it’s just like starting with nothing again, but we are really lucky for how people have really helped us out and we’re trying to stay positive and just thinking we are still lucky. It could be so much worse. We’re all alive. That’s the main thing and this has just been a weekend off without actually thinking about the house. Just being us and just having fun. Just switching off from it all for a weekend – and it’s been amazing!”
The Reavey family’s experience underscores the profound impact of community support during times of crisis. The fire, which occurred in September, left the family grappling with the loss of not just their home but also sentimental items that held lifelong memories. Despite the devastation, the family’s spirit remains unbroken, buoyed by the outpouring of kindness from Everton FC and the broader community. This act of generosity serves as a reminder of the power of football clubs to transcend the sport, offering hope and support to fans in their darkest hours.
