Manchester United delivered an impressive second-half display to secure a 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Monday. After a tense first half that ended 1-1, United came out strong in the second period, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount sealing the win. This victory marked a significant turnaround for United, who had dropped points in their previous match against West Ham.
Ayden Heaven said: “We dropped points in the last game and this was the chance to go and redeem ourselves and get more points. I feel like we did that, especially in the second half. We knew it wasn’t good enough that we conceded. He [Amorim] just told us to do what we can do and we did that, as you saw.”
Heaven added: “There’s so many great defenders at this club that he’s trusting you to be at the middle of that defence. He’s trusting me a lot. I feel like I’m working hard every day in training and I’m showing he can trust me in the games that I’m playing. I wouldn’t say it was rust. I felt confident. West Ham are a good team and they started well. I thought I was a good player. I knew that I first had to gain the trust of the manager and slowly I know I’m doing that. I feel like I’m doing well at the moment, but I’ve just got to keep working.”
Heaven continued: “I’m enjoying it because knowing you have that experience around you. You are not scared to go on the front foot and not scared of what you leave behind either. They’re always there when I need them.”
Heaven concluded: “If we carry on how we did today with this same team then we can go as high as possible. We’ve just got to do what we did today in every game. I don’t think anyone can stop us when we play like this. Of course, playing at Old Trafford [in three of the next four games], you can’t say no to that. It’s a real boost to us and it will work in our favour. We want to win as many games as possible. Hopefully we can be in Europe next season, which I think we’ll do. That’s where Manchester United belong, so feel like we can just continue how we did today and we’ll be back when we belong.”
The victory at Molineux saw Manchester United climb to sixth in the Premier League standings, showcasing their potential to challenge for European spots. Ayden Heaven, who retained his starting position despite a challenging outing against West Ham, demonstrated significant improvement and composure in defense. His comments reflect a growing confidence and belief in the team’s capabilities under manager Ruben Amorim.
United’s ability to respond positively after surrendering their lead at half-time was crucial. The team capitalized on their attacking prowess in the second half, with Mbeumo and Mount playing pivotal roles in turning the tide. The win not only boosted United’s position in the league but also set a positive tone for their upcoming fixtures, including three matches at Old Trafford.
As United continue to build momentum, Heaven’s remarks highlight the importance of consistency and the squad’s ambition to secure a place in European competitions next season. The young defender’s growing confidence and trust from the manager will be vital as United aim to maintain their upward trajectory in the league.
