VAR NO GOAL
Nottingham Forest are preparing to escalate a VAR controversy following their 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park. The incident in question involved an off-the-ball collision between Everton’s James Tarkowski and Forest’s Ndoye, which went unpunished by both the on-field referee, Chris Kavanagh, and the VAR officials. Forest believe the incident met the criteria for violent conduct and are now set to take further action.
Sean Dyche said: “It’s aggressive. He doesn’t need to do it. I don’t know why he’s done it. Ultimately, that’s a red card… you can see the way his head jolted back as well.”
Dermot Gallagher said: “When I watched the game, it didn’t leap out to me. If the referee sees it, it’s a yellow card — it never crosses my mind for it to be a red card.”
Sean Dyche added: “On another day, I’m amazed big Tarky gets away with that but he did. Not even a yellow card. It’s not a shove if you look at it. Players get yellows and reds now for just touching heads together and it’s a lot more than that.”
The incident occurred in the 11th minute when Everton were leading 1-0. While the outcome of the match might not have been altered by a potential dismissal, Dyche likely feels that the decision could have influenced the game. The Forest manager expressed his disbelief at the lack of punishment for Tarkowski, highlighting the inconsistency in officiating standards.
As Forest look to move past this defeat, they are set to face FC Utrecht in the Europa League. A victory in the Netherlands could propel them into a vital top-eight position. Meanwhile, the Premier League continues to expand its broadcasting reach, with Sky set to air at least 215 live matches this season.
