Sean Dyche Burnley
Sean Dyche said: “Take nothing away from them, we were not where we needed to be from the off. I have spoken to the players about that but have also reminded them about the work they have done, because it has been a pretty solid run since we got in – performance-wise and pretty good results. I’m not going to over-egg it with them, but it goes to show that if you are not right in the Premier League – in the physical nature of it, the demand and the edge you have got to play with – it’s very difficult to win games. We didn’t have that.”
The match began on a challenging note for Forest, with Nicolo Savona receiving a booking within the first 30 seconds. Everton capitalized on their early momentum, taking the lead just two minutes into the game. Although Forest attempted to regroup, Everton doubled their advantage right before halftime, effectively sealing the outcome. The Reds struggled to create significant chances, and Everton’s hunger and determination were evident throughout the match.
Sean Dyche said post-match: “I do not want to over egg it because the players have produced a big shift since we got here and this was only the second time we have stepped away from that. They have put in a real shift physically and with their mentality to take games on. But we cannot start games like that, against a team that looked really hungry for their chance to jump up the league. We have done that ourselves previously, but we did not today.”
Injuries have compounded Forest’s challenges, with several key players still recovering. The lack of depth was apparent as Dyche was forced to stick with the same starting XI from their previous match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. While Forest managed a win in the West Midlands, they were unable to replicate that success against a spirited Everton side. The absence of players like Murillo, Dilane Bakwa, and Taiwo Awoniyi has limited Dyche’s options, making it difficult to rotate the squad effectively.
Forest’s upcoming fixtures, including a Europa League clash against Utrecht, will test their resilience and adaptability. The team will need to find a balance between managing player fitness and maintaining competitive performances. Despite the setback, Dyche remains optimistic about the progress made since his arrival and is focused on steering the team away from relegation threats. The match against Tottenham Hotspur presents an opportunity for Forest to bounce back and regain their form.
