Mo Salah
Mohamed Salah has ignited a storm with a revealing interview where he expressed his current frustrations at Liverpool, following a series of benchings under manager Arne Slot. The Egyptian forward, who has been a pivotal figure for the Reds, hinted at a potential departure from the club and disclosed a lack of rapport with Slot.
Mohamed Salah said: “I couldn’t believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. That’s the third time. It’s the first time in my career I think. I am very disappointed, I have done so much for this club over years, especially last season. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel it. Someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in summer. Now, I’m on bench, so I can say they haven’t kept those promises.”
Salah continued: “It doesn’t matter if I play or not. I’m going to enjoy it. Is there interest from Saudi Arabia? I don’t want to answer that question because the club will take me in a different direction. I have done so much for this club. I love the fans so much and love the club, I don’t know what is next.”
Danny Murphy commented on BBC’s Match of the Day: “We know that’s an emotional response that doesn’t really stack up. Everyone has to keep fighting for their place and keep fighting for a certain level. A lot of other big-name players are getting stick and some of their fans are turning, they are getting judged. It’s not true. You can be angry, you can be frustrated, you can be emotional. He’s done wonderful things for the football club. But you have to keep it in the four walls of the club. Knock on the manager’s door, go and speak to the CEO and whoever you need to. Go and see the owners. Do whatever you’ve got to do. Express your frustrations there… By doing what he’s done, he’s causing the manager and the team a problem and he’s making it all about him. You just can’t do it. Whether you agree with him being left out or not, you don’t deal with it like this.”
The interview has undoubtedly sent ripples through the club and its fanbase, with Salah’s forthright comments highlighting his dissatisfaction with recent team selections. His absence from the starting lineup against West Ham, Sunderland, and Leeds has been a point of contention, particularly given his contributions to the team in previous seasons.
Salah’s remarks about potential interest from Saudi Arabia further fuel speculation about his future at Anfield. While he refrained from confirming any transfer intentions, the mere mention of such interest suggests that his time at Liverpool could be nearing an end if his concerns are not addressed.
The situation underscores the challenges facing Arne Slot as he navigates player management and team dynamics. The manager will need to address Salah’s grievances to prevent further disruption and maintain team cohesion as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Brighton.
