Mason Mount Chelsea
Manchester United’s recent 1-1 draw against West Ham has sparked discussions, with Mason Mount receiving criticism from former United player Roy Keane. Despite the team’s improved performance this season, following a disappointing 2024/2025 campaign, the match highlighted ongoing challenges for the Reds. Ruben Amorim, however, has previously expressed admiration for Mount, emphasizing the midfielder’s dedication and potential.
Roy Keane said: “When you look at the squad, considering the money that has been spent, they lack strength in depth. Particularly in the attacking areas. When you are trying to see a game off, I look at Mason Mount when he came on, some players take longer to get up to speed but he was like a schoolboy out there. If anything they brought the levels down at United.”
Ruben Amorim said: “Mason Mount… I have to tell you, I love that kid. You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. I see him and know how he suffered. I know how he does everything right – he eats right, his physical aspect is perfect. He’s trying too much. Maybe he is thinking too much about everything. He was European champion, he is a talent. When a player does everything like he does, he will always have the support of everybody here at the club.”
Ruben Amorim continued: “For me, as a manager, it’s really important. But I take it as normal. I think we should support each other because, in the end, we have our friends, we have our club but, in the end, we are the guys who can change everything.”
The match against West Ham saw United initially take the lead through Diogo Dalot’s goal. However, Soungoutou Magassa’s late equalizer for the visitors meant United could not secure all three points. Mount, who started the game on the bench, was brought on to replace Joshua Zirkzee with just over 10 minutes remaining. Despite his recent match-winning performance against Crystal Palace, Keane’s critique of Mount as a “schoolboy” highlighted perceived deficiencies in the team’s depth and attacking prowess.
Amorim’s praise for Mount underscores a different perspective, focusing on the player’s commitment and leadership qualities. Mount’s resolve and dedication have left a lasting impression on Amorim since his early days in charge, and the manager remains supportive of the midfielder’s efforts.
As United prepare to face Wolves at Molineux this weekend, the team will aim to return to winning ways. The upcoming fixtures, including matches against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, present further opportunities for United to demonstrate their progress and address the critiques levied against them.
