Diogo Jota
The football world is in mourning following the tragic death of former Liverpool star Diogo Jota in a car accident. The incident occurred when a tyre blowout caused his vehicle to veer off the road en route to a ferry in Santander, resulting in a fire that consumed the car. Jota is survived by his wife, Rute Cardoso, and their three young children, making the loss even more devastating as the couple had wed just 11 days prior.
Monica Ferreira, owner of Aromas de Portugal, said: “Myself, I don’t know too much about football, so I didn’t know him in the first place. My husband, when he saw him, recognised him. He was a normal customer. He was very polite, very humble as well, like everyone knows. And he was very nice with everyone. After his first visit to the coffee shop, he was a regular. We did some dinners with [former Wolves midfielder] Ruben Neves as well. They were very friendly. Really nice people. Everyone is devastated with the news.”
Jota’s untimely death has left a significant void, not only in his family but also among his friends and former colleagues. Known for his humility and down-to-earth nature, Jota maintained close ties with his roots even after achieving success in the Premier League. His journey to the top flight was marked by his time at Atletico Madrid before making a name for himself in England. Despite his success, Jota remained grounded, as evidenced by his regular visits to a local coffee shop in Wolverhampton, where he was remembered fondly by the owner and patrons for his humility.
Jota’s football career was marked by his impressive performances on the field, but it was his character off the field that left a lasting impression on those who knew him. His connection to his roots and his ability to remain humble despite his star status made him a beloved figure among fans and friends alike. The football community is left to reflect on the legacy of a player who not only excelled in his sport but also touched the lives of many with his kindness and humility.
