Nottingham Forest secured a vital 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night, thanks to a decisive goal from summer signing Jesus. The Brazilian forward, who joined Forest from Botafogo for £16.5 million, scored his first Premier League goal with a well-placed header from Omari Hutchinson’s cross. The win at Molineux marks a significant step for Forest as they aim to distance themselves from the relegation zone.
Sean Dyche said: “I’m really pleased for him. He works really hard and is learning about his trade in the Premier League. He’s brave, we know that, and he has thrown his head at that one. He has kept his eye on the ball all the way over. I’m pleased for him to get his goal. We were all surprised he had one chalked off at Liverpool and then on Sunday (against Brighton and Hove Albion) the keeper made a great save from him. Tonight was a very important goal.”
Sean Dyche continued: “It was a great cross from Omari, who I thought was excellent. It wasn’t just that cross; his work ethic for the team was absolutely top class. He has a good work ethic, which is a start. He is learning about the fitness needed in the Premier League. Fees nowadays are irrelevant. Because of them, people believe that players are going to hit the ground running and they ask why the manager has not got the best of them – things like that. Some players need time. Some hit the ground running.”
Sean Dyche added: “Other clubs in the Premier League have spent big money on players and it has taken them time to settle. Some, it can take a season or two. There are players – I will not name them – who have done great things in the Premier League, who were not doing so three years ago. Now they are. These players are adapting really well in the Premier League, in my opinion. They are now four points clear of the relegation zone, although 18th-placed West Ham United have a game in hand. They (Wolves) are fighting.”
The match saw both Jesus and Hutchinson, who was acquired from Ipswich Town for £37.5 million, making significant contributions. Hutchinson’s performance, particularly his assist, was praised by Dyche, highlighting his work ethic and impact on the game. This victory is crucial for Forest, who are now four points clear of the relegation zone, although West Ham United, sitting in 18th place, have a game in hand.
Forest’s ability to create chances and capitalize on key moments was evident in the match. Despite Wolves changing their tactics in the second half, opting for a more direct approach, Forest managed to maintain their lead and secure the win. This result provides a much-needed boost for the team as they continue to navigate the challenges of the Premier League season.
