Declan Rice
Arsenal’s recent victory over Brentford was marred by an injury scare for their star midfielder, Declan Rice. The 26-year-old delivered an impressive performance before limping off the field with a suspected calf problem, leaving fans and management worried about his fitness. Rice was substituted by Viktor Gyokeres, who played a pivotal role in helping Arsenal secure the win and maintain their Premier League title ambitions.
Mikel Arteta said: “Obviously it’s never good news. We don’t know. We have to see tomorrow what he’s got. He can walk. He cannot play.”
Declan Rice said: “Good to see my brother!! @ivantoney1 [red love heart emoji].”
Despite the injury concerns, Arsenal managed to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points, thanks to goals from Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka. Arteta, reflecting on the match, noted that his team had several opportunities to score a second goal but failed to capitalize, which left the game open at times. The Gunners now face a quick turnaround as they prepare for a challenging away fixture against Aston Villa.
Mikel Arteta said: “I think we had three big chances to score the second goal. We didn’t do it, and then when we were going for the second one, the game became a little bit open. We started to be a bit late in certain moments in the high press, they break it and the pitch is stretched.”
Arteta also expressed his frustration with the congested fixture schedule, particularly for teams involved in European competitions. He emphasized the need for more rest days to aid player recovery and performance.
Mikel Arteta added: “It’s probably not one thing, but we can help the players and everybody in the league and everybody to do what we have to do, give it another day. Especially the teams that are playing so much in Europe. To everybody in general, I think we can do that because we’re going to benefit from that. So we need to try to do that, please. But we have to try to do that when we can.”
As Arsenal look to maintain their momentum in the title race, the fitness of Declan Rice will be a key concern. The club and fans alike will be hoping for a swift recovery for the midfielder, whose contributions have been vital to their campaign.
