Diogo Jota’s absence from the Wolverhampton Wanderers squad for the Carabao Cup exit to Stoke City has sparked confusion amidst rumours that he is set to join defending champions Liverpool. The 23-year-old forward was at Molineux before the game but was not part of the squad. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo said that he missed out due to rotation and refused to comment on whether he will be available for their opening premier league match against Manchester City.
Nuno Espirito Santo said “Him and Max (Kilman) were not available for this game, We have a small squad, all of the options are good but today they were not available for the game. These are decisions that we have to make. We have to know what the moment of the season is. It was a quick turnaround but we have to take care of the players. We have decisions to make and we have to continue. When a player is not on the squad list, sometimes you see the match squad and stay away. We have to make a list but nothing strange. I don’t know (If he will be available for Manchester City), we have to see. He was not on the squad list. Period.”
