Manchester United legend Gary Neville hailed a “brilliant start” to the new season for Wolves after they saw off Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The visitors triumphed 2-0 thanks to early goals from Raul Jimenez and Romain Saiss. Neville reckons that the fact that the midlands club will not have any Europa League to contend with this year could work in their favour as they will be fresher and can play consistent football throughout the year.
Gary Neville said “Brilliant start to the season, We (Neville and Jamie Carragher ) were asked the question before the game, who would finish higher out of these two teams – we both said Wolves. No Europa League, they’ve re-signed their manager, kept the players they needed to keep, Conor Coady now in the England side, brimming with confidence. They’ve always been difficult to play against, well-organised, and efficient. A really good start to the season. The football’s absolutely fantastic, They win it in a deep position, they’re good defensively, but they counter-attack very well. The speed, it draws him in on that side – (John) Lundstram it is. You talk about the quality of the finish – sometimes strikers slash at it – but that’s really good quality. He passes it into the net.”
