Everton Carlo Ancelotti says his “brilliant” Blues side have sent out a message of intent following their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. A Dominic Calvert-Lewin header secured the Blues a 1-0 victory in North London this evening and ended a nearly seven-year run without triumph at the top-six side. Ancelotti handed debuts to the club’s three senior signings from this transfer window and Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez all starred in a deserved win.
Carlo Ancelotti said “We are satisfied, I am satisfied with the performance of the team, it was brilliant. We had some difficulties in two or three situations in the first-half but Jordan Pickford was fantastic in those situations. After that, in the second-half we had more control of the game. We were comfortable with the ball and comfortable without the ball. In the end, it was a deserved win. It was an important performance at a difficult ground against a difficult team. Our scores here were not good in the past so I am pleased we have started the season well, this is what we wanted to do. We showed that we can compete, this is the most important message we have back from this game, that we can compete with everyone if we have the right spirit and have the right attitude. The players showed this today.”
