Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal is grappling with a series of injury concerns as they prepare for their upcoming Carabao Cup match. Manager Mikel Arteta has provided updates on the fitness of several key players, including Noni Madueke, Piero Hincapie, Kai Havertz, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Jesus, all of whom are currently sidelined with injuries.
Mikel Arteta said: “He’s going to be out for a few weeks. We don’t really know yet, probably we’re going to have to do a scan next week again. He felt something at the beginning of the match, he tried to carry on and half-time he was too sore, so that’s it. As I said, we need to scan him again to see the real extent of the injury, but it doesn’t look too bad.”
Noni Madueke, who sustained a knee injury during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City, will be out for several weeks. Arteta confirmed that further scans are required to determine the full extent of the injury, but initial assessments suggest it may not be too severe. The winger’s absence is a significant blow to Arsenal, especially with a packed fixture schedule.
Mikel Arteta said: “We have to again assess him in the next few days how he goes. There’s been a change of load and he didn’t really have a pre-season after the injury. We’ll have to see in the next week or so how he is.”
Piero Hincapie is also under observation due to a groin issue. The defender missed pre-season preparations and is currently undergoing a modified training regimen. His potential return is eyed for Arsenal’s clash against West Ham on October 4.
Mikel Arteta said: “Well, with Kai we know that it will be months with him. I don’t know if he can be weeks. You never know because this is Kai and he’s a different specimen. He’s progressing and we really miss him. Hopefully he’ll be back and back for the long term as well, which is very important to look at suddenly. So far he’s progressing really well.”
Kai Havertz is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. Arteta expressed hope for a swift recovery, noting Havertz’s unique resilience and progress in rehabilitation. However, a specific return date remains uncertain.
Mikel Arteta said: “If there is a chance, it will be after tomorrow’s session, because they haven’t done anything yet. So, we will have more information.”
Martin Odegaard’s shoulder injury is another concern, with Arteta indicating that further assessments are needed following the next training session. The midfielder’s return could potentially align with Arsenal’s match against Port Vale.
Mikel Arteta said: “He had a major surgery – it was going to take him many, many months. After discussing with the medical staff and understanding the schedule, we thought that he could be available between December and January.”
Gabriel Jesus, recovering from knee surgery, is expected to be out until at least December. Arteta and the medical team are targeting a return between December and January, emphasizing the importance of a careful recovery process.
These injuries pose significant challenges for Arsenal as they navigate their upcoming fixtures. Arteta will need to rely on squad depth and tactical adjustments to maintain the team’s competitive edge in the Carabao Cup and beyond.
