Ange Postecoglou has urged his Nottingham Forest squad to place their trust in him as he works to rejuvenate their season. The new head coach’s tenure began with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Arsenal, mirroring the end of Nuno Espirito Santo’s stint. Despite the setback, midfielder Elliot Anderson remains optimistic about the team’s potential under Postecoglou’s leadership, who aims to implement a more attacking style of play. The upcoming Carabao Cup match against Swansea City presents an opportunity for Forest to showcase their transformation under the new management.
Elliot Anderson said: “We haven’t had much work on the training pitch but we’ve got to do the same things out there, fight for the team, fight for the badge. He (Postecoglou) just said in the changing room, just to trust him and we’ll get back on the training pitch and we’ll look at things and ideas we can improve on. We’re all focused. We’ve got the players in the changing room to do what he wants to do, so we’ll all just need to believe in it and put things into practice. We’re positive it will pay off.”
Postecoglou is under pressure to deliver results quickly, as owner Evangelos Marinakis has made it clear that he expects trophies. The Greek-born Australian manager is tasked with steering the team towards success in the Europa League, while also making a strong impression in domestic competitions. The midweek clash in Wales is seen as a crucial opportunity to kick-start a cup run and implement Postecoglou’s tactical vision.
Anderson added: “As quickly as possible, to be honest. It starts on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. We need to go to Swansea and it starts there. Every game matters to us and we’ll keep building. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Postecoglou is expected to make several changes to the starting line-up against Swansea, providing game time to players who have had limited opportunities so far. Summer signings such as Douglas Luiz, Arnaud Kalimuendo, Dilane Bakwa, Igor Jesus, James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Jair Cunha, and Oleksandr Zinchenko could feature prominently. However, full-back Ola Aina is sidelined with a hamstring injury for at least three months, while midfielder Nicolas Dominguez is recovering from a knee injury sustained in May.
The match against Swansea is not just a chance for Nottingham Forest to progress in the Carabao Cup but also a platform for Postecoglou to instill his philosophy and for the team to adapt to his system. As Forest prepares for the fixture, the focus remains on building momentum and cohesion under their new manager.
