Harvey Elliott
Aston Villa’s recent draw against Everton saw Harvey Elliott make an appearance off the bench, replacing Emi Buendía in the 71st minute. As Villa look to secure their first win and goal of the season, they turn their focus to the Carabao Cup clash against Brentford. This match presents an opportunity for Elliott to potentially make his first start for the club, having spent the past few weeks integrating into Unai Emery’s squad.
Harvey Elliott said: “He’s told me the ins and outs of where he wants me to be and play. I’ve been with them throughout the whole international break, so I’ve had a few weeks to integrate myself into the team, the style of play, and understand what’s going on. I just really hope we can kick on from here. It’s a lot of travelling, but we need to keep fighting – especially for the fans – give them what they deserve, which is three points. There are players still out injured as well, like Amadou Onana and Boubacar Kamara. A few other lads, I think, got knocks today [vs. Everton]. So there’s quality all around the team, and it’s going to be hard, but I like the process of having to work to get into a really good team. I face that challenge again with Villa. I need to fight for the badge and showcase what I can do on the pitch.”
Elliott added: “It’s his detail as well, and the heart he has for all of us. The first time I ever spoke to him, I was blown away by the way he was and what he had to say about me. As the weeks have gone on, you see it more and more. He’s a very loving figure; he’s always looking out for you and making sure you’re OK. He does the best he can to help you as a player. I think working under him is going to be the best thing for me, as long as he trusts me. That’s all that matters.”
Elliott’s comments highlight the positive impact Unai Emery has had on him since joining Villa. Despite being on loan, the midfielder is expected to join the club permanently, with a £35 million obligation to buy already agreed upon. Elliott’s integration into the squad has been swift, aided by the international break, which allowed him to familiarize himself with Emery’s tactical approach and team dynamics.
The upcoming Carabao Cup fixture against Brentford is crucial for Villa, as they aim to kickstart their season with a victory. Elliott’s potential inclusion in the starting lineup could provide the creative spark Villa needs, especially with key players like Amadou Onana and Boubacar Kamara sidelined due to injuries. The match will also be an opportunity for Elliott to demonstrate his capabilities and justify the club’s investment in him.
As the season progresses, Elliott’s role under Emery will be pivotal, with the manager’s trust and detailed guidance likely to shape the young midfielder’s development. With Sky broadcasting a significant number of live Premier League games this season, Elliott’s performances will be under the spotlight, offering him a platform to shine and make a lasting impression.
