Andoni Iraola
Bournemouth showcased resilience and tactical prowess in their recent clash against Brighton, securing a hard-fought draw. The match, which saw both teams display moments of brilliance, ended with each side sharing the spoils. Bournemouth initially took the lead with a stunning goal from Alex Scott, but Brighton quickly responded in the second half, leveling the score through Kaoru Mitoma.
Andoni Iraola said: “[I’m] really pleased because I considered this game to be quite difficult for us. I think we were facing a very good team, especially offensively. I think it’s a team that always damages the opposition and creates a lot of chances.”
Iraola said: “I think to score first was one of the things we were talking during the week, because it happened the other way against Brighton past season. Even if they tie at the end, it gives you a lot of confidence. I think first half we’ve been quite solid and probably we’ve had this moment at the end of the first half already and beginning of the second, especially where they were better than us and we had to go through this difficult period. I think apart from this period in the middle, I finished happy with the performance.”
Iraola said: “Tav [Marcus Tavernier] first and especially Eva [Evanilson] is very smart in this situation. We haven’t conceded really clear chances from there and I think it’s valuable.”
The match began with Bournemouth taking an early lead, thanks to Alex Scott’s impressive strike in the 18th minute. However, Brighton responded swiftly after the break, with Mitoma equalizing just three minutes into the second half. The Seagulls appeared to dominate the early stages of the second half, putting Bournemouth under considerable pressure. Despite this, Bournemouth’s defense held firm, preventing Brighton from capitalizing on their momentum.
Iraola’s tactical adjustments were evident as the game progressed, with substitutions playing a crucial role in regaining control. Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson were instrumental in stabilizing the team’s performance, ensuring that Brighton’s chances were limited. The result leaves Bournemouth with a sense of satisfaction, having managed to hold their own against a formidable opponent.
This draw serves as a testament to Bournemouth’s growing confidence and ability to compete against top-tier teams in the Premier League. As the season progresses, Iraola will undoubtedly look to build on this performance, aiming for consistency and further success.
