Illan Meslier
Leeds United’s goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been navigating a challenging period at the club, with his future hanging in the balance. Despite being third choice behind Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri, Meslier has remained at Elland Road this summer due to a shortage of transfer offers. Stuart Dallas, a key figure at the club, has expressed his belief that Meslier can still make a comeback.
Robbie Evans said: “Frankly, he didn’t want to go into a situation he didn’t want to be in. And so it ended up being the case that for both parties, it was better that he be here.”
Stuart Dallas said: “I mean, I’m not sure if he’s forgotten. I don’t know if it is the end for him. I think they’ve signed a goalkeeper in Perri. They’ve obviously got another fantastic goalkeeper in Karl Darlow, so I don’t know if it’s the end for Illan. Yeah, so he’s still at the club. He’ll continue to work. Stranger things have happened in terms of players fighting their way back into the fold. Illan’s a good lad. He’s had a fantastic career at Leeds, you know. He’s played a lot of games at a very young age and I wish him well. If he does decide to move on at some point, I don’t know what the plans are, but yeah, he’s had a fantastic career.”
Meslier’s journey at Leeds has been tumultuous, particularly after being dropped for Darlow following an error-prone season. The arrival of Lucas Perri further complicated his position, pushing him out of the matchday squad. Despite these setbacks, Meslier’s commitment to the club remains unwavering, as evidenced by his decision to stay put amidst limited transfer options.
While the transfer windows in some countries, such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia, remain open, it appears that Meslier is set to continue his journey with Leeds United for now. His absence from recent matches, including the friendly against Villarreal, has raised questions about his role at the club. However, Dallas’s comments reflect a sense of optimism and support for Meslier, emphasizing the potential for a comeback.
As Leeds United navigates the season, the situation surrounding Meslier will be closely watched. His determination to fight for his place, coupled with the support from teammates like Dallas, could pave the way for a resurgence in his career at Elland Road.
