Marcos Senesi
Marcos Senesi has made an impressive return to AFC Bournemouth’s starting lineup this season, re-establishing himself as a crucial component of the team’s defence. Following a long injury layoff that saw him lose his spot to Dean Huijsen last November, Senesi is back at the heart of the Cherries’ defence, stepping up after Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi’s departures to Real Madrid and PSG, respectively.
Marcos Senesi said: “It was a really smooth recovery, and I feel ready to go now. I trust myself, I trust my body, and the way that it has recovered…I’m just always pushing myself to do more.”
Senesi’s return has been marked by strong performances, despite a shaky start at Anfield against Liverpool on the opening day. Since then, Bournemouth has achieved back-to-back league clean sheets. Senesi currently ranks second in the Premier League for both clearances and interceptions, with 30 and seven, respectively. He shares the interception tally with teammate Tyler Adams and has also contributed offensively with an assist for Evanilson’s goal against Spurs.
The Cherries have undergone significant changes in their defensive lineup, with four of the back five, including the goalkeeper, leaving the club. Kepa and Milos Kerkez have moved on, making way for new signings Djordje Petrovic and Adrien Truffert, who have both started the season well. Senesi’s adaptability and leadership have been vital in this transitional phase for Bournemouth.
Marcos Senesi said: “Lately, I haven’t really been thinking much about Argentina, because after recovering from my injury, it’s hard to think about that. I’m just trying to get back to my level, play football, and from there, we’ll see what happens. Of course, it’s a dream to play for your national team and represent your country at a World Cup, but I’m just thinking about being fit and being able to play. It will be an exciting season for me.”
With the World Cup season approaching, Senesi remains focused on regaining his form and fitness. While he dreams of returning to the Argentina national team, his primary goal is to maintain his current level and contribute to Bournemouth’s success. His performance this season could potentially earn him a recall to the national squad, adding another layer of motivation to his already determined mindset.
Senesi’s journey back to form is a testament to his resilience and dedication. As Bournemouth navigates a new era with a restructured defence, his presence and performance will undoubtedly be pivotal in their quest for success in the Premier League.
