Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to regroup and refocus as they head into the international break after a challenging start to the Premier League season. The team has faced consecutive defeats against Manchester City, Bournemouth, and Everton, although they managed to secure a Carabao Cup victory over West Ham in between. Spanish star Fer Lopez expressed optimism that the break could serve as a beneficial pause for the club.
Fer Lopez said: “When you lose, obviously it’s not very good, but we need to work hard and I think the international duty is going to help us a little bit because it’s time for everyone to gather more rhythm, playing with their national team. We are a lot of new players and we are only three games into the season so I think we need to calm down a little bit. But we are gutted with the result (against Everton) because we thought we could at least get a point, especially with our performance in the last 25 minutes. I think we were very superior to Everton, but the majority of the chances they had, they scored, and fair play to them because it’s not easy to go in and score and they were very good goals. No-one likes to lose, especially the manager, and if we lost the first three Premier League games, he’s not going to be happy – it’s normal. But we have to work hard to change the situation and we are going to do that. When he came in here last year, things were much worse than they are now, so we have time to change the situation. I think these last couple of performances, against West Ham in the cup, and then Everton, helped mentally because we knew we deserved a little bit more.”
Lopez’s comments highlight the challenges faced by Wolves, who are integrating several new players into their squad. The international break offers an opportunity for players to gain more match rhythm and return with renewed focus. Despite the disappointing results, there is a sense of resilience within the team, with Lopez emphasizing their determination to turn the situation around. The recent performances, particularly the Carabao Cup win and the strong showing against Everton, have provided a mental boost, reinforcing the belief that better results are within reach.
