Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have successfully completed the signing of Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. The transfer saga, which saw prolonged negotiations between the two clubs, has finally concluded with Gyokeres signing a five-year contract with the Gunners. Arsenal will pay an initial fee of €63.5 million (£55m), with potential add-ons amounting to €10m (£8.7m).
Frederico Varandas said: “We’re calm. I sent a message to congratulate Gyokeres. He is a legend of Sporting and one of the best players in the club’s history.”
Arsenal’s club statement read: “The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability have been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves. Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goalscoring numbers at club and international levels. He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat.”
Gyokeres’ transfer marks a significant acquisition for Arsenal, who have been keen to bolster their attacking options. The Swedish international, who missed pre-season due to ongoing negotiations, has already made an impact at Arsenal with two goals in his first three Premier League appearances. His arrival is expected to add depth and versatility to the squad, providing manager Mikel Arteta with more options in the attacking department.
Sporting Lisbon’s president, Frederico Varandas, praised Gyokeres, acknowledging his contributions to the club during his two-season stint in Lisbon. Gyokeres scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances, establishing himself as one of the club’s most prolific forwards. His departure is seen as a significant loss for Sporting, but the club’s management has expressed satisfaction with the terms of the deal.
Arsenal’s acquisition of Gyokeres is seen as a strategic move to enhance their attacking prowess, with the player bringing a wealth of experience and a proven track record of scoring goals. As the Premier League season progresses, Arsenal fans will be eager to see how Gyokeres integrates into the team and contributes to their campaign.
