Igor Julio
Brighton’s summer 2023 signing, Igor, has embarked on a new chapter with a season-long loan to West Ham United. The 27-year-old defender, acquired from Fiorentina for a fee up to £17 million, has made 50 appearances for Brighton. As he transitions to the Hammers, Igor has spoken about his time at Brighton and the influence of former head coach Graham Potter on his career.
Igor said: “I had the chance to go to Brighton and to fulfil a dream as well, which was to play in the UEFA Europa League. I’m very grateful for everything I went through at Brighton during those years, for everything I learnt there, and to all the staff who helped me grow and evolve as a player, too. That was very convincing. He’s also a very well-known coach. I think it’s important for me, especially at this point in my career, to work with a manager who has so much knowledge of the Premier League.”
Igor’s reflections highlight the importance of his tenure at Brighton, where he developed under Potter’s guidance. His move to West Ham comes after a potential transfer to Crystal Palace fell through on deadline day. While Igor is ineligible to play against Brighton due to loan regulations, he anticipates making his West Ham debut against Tottenham in the Premier League on September 13. The Hammers are set to face Brighton on December 6, with the return fixture scheduled for December 30.
Igor added: “West Ham is a big club in England. I already knew about the club, I had already played against them before, and from the moment the speculation arose, I got really excited and delighted to have the opportunity with West Ham.”
Igor’s enthusiasm for joining West Ham is evident, as he looks forward to contributing to the club’s ambitions. His experience at Brighton, coupled with the opportunity to work with knowledgeable managers, positions him well for success in the Premier League.
