Leeds United welcomed their central defender Chris Whyte back after a neck injury and returned for the upcoming Yorkshire “derby” at Elland Road against Sheffield Wednesday. Whyte missed the champions shock 4-1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest in the previous week. Gary McAllister was also fit again after suffering a jarred back against Forest. David Batty was still not ready to return and had missed six matches with a hairline ankle fracture.
