Manchester City Fans
In the recent Champions League draw held in Monaco, Manchester City discovered their opponents for the league phase. The club’s director of football, Hugo Viana, expressed relief and satisfaction with the draw, which spared the team from long-distance travel. City’s most challenging away fixture will be against Bodo/Glimt in the Arctic Circle, but they will also face Real Madrid and Villarreal in Spain, as well as Monaco. The avoidance of potential trips to Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan was seen as a significant advantage for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Hugo Viana said: “It is always very nice to be here. Every team wants to be in the Champions League so we are really happy and proud at the same time. There are a lot of good games. The positive thing is that we avoided long trips. It is positive because of the amount of games that we have. At the same time it will be a lot of games with a big challenge also for us without having the long trips which is a positive. We are going to face some very good teams like Real Madrid – it is the fifth [consecutive] year that we will play against them. It is also really positive to have Kevin De Bruyne at home, our legend. It will be very positive to see him again.”
Manchester City will host Kevin De Bruyne’s Napoli at the Etihad Stadium, alongside German outfits Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, and Turkish giants Galatasaray. The return of De Bruyne is highly anticipated by both the club and its fans. Viana emphasized the excitement surrounding De Bruyne’s visit, highlighting the warm reception expected from Pep Guardiola and the City supporters.
Viana added: “I think Pep and all of his colleagues will be really happy to receive him and our fans will be also. It will be very exciting and we will be very happy to see him again.”
In addition to discussing the Champions League draw, Viana provided insights into his experiences working with Guardiola and Manchester City. He described his tenure as a period of significant learning and expressed enthusiasm about being part of the Premier League and experiencing the Champions League with such a prestigious club.
Viana continued: “It has been a pleasure, a learning, a lot of learning moments for me. Of course, I am very excited to be in the Premier League also with this huge, huge Club and to have this first Champions League experience with Manchester City, it is always a pleasure.”
The draw has set the stage for an exciting Champions League campaign for Manchester City, with the club eager to navigate the challenges ahead and capitalize on the opportunity to compete against some of Europe’s elite teams.
