Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are actively pursuing a new signing to complement Viktor Gyokeres before the transfer window closes on September 1. Despite spending over £250 million on new players this summer, including the acquisition of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for approximately £68 million, the Gunners are keen to further strengthen their squad. Sporting Director Andrea Berta has expressed the club’s ambition to continue building towards success, highlighting the need for additional reinforcements at the Emirates Stadium.
Andrea Berta said: “Eberechi is a creative and explosive talent with huge technical quality – also a big-game player, with his experience at international level with England also underlining his quality and character.”
Alvarez’s representatives told the Spanish television programme, as quoted by Sport: “He has never been given the place he feels he deserves. He’s resigned and hurt because last season he scored almost 30 goals, but they placed him on the left winger to chase full-backs or substituted him at half-time. You can’t blame Simeone because he doesn’t know how to handle a star of world football. He’s not used to it, it’s our fault for taking him there. We made a mistake to go and play for Simeone’s team.”
Diego Simeone said to La Nacion: “It’s logical, I can’t imagine any other scenario. Julian is 25-years-old, he’s an extraordinary player, with hunger, with enthusiasm, with humility, with work, with goals, with status. How could everyone not want him? And Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool… the best have to want him. And for us, Atletico fans, it should be a source of pride that everyone wants him. Why? Because he’s ours. And since he’s ours, we have to take care of him.”
Arsenal’s interest in Julian Alvarez comes amid a series of injuries affecting key players such as Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus. Ben White also remains a doubt, prompting the club to consider Alvarez as a versatile option who can play both as a striker and an attacking midfielder. Alvarez’s potential role at Arsenal could mirror his time at Manchester City, where he played alongside Erling Haaland. Reports from ‘El Chiringuito’ suggest that Alvarez is unhappy with his current situation at Atletico Madrid, where he feels underutilized by Diego Simeone. His representatives have voiced concerns about his positioning and playing time, which could open the door for a move to Arsenal.
The pursuit of Alvarez aligns with Arsenal’s strategy to bolster their attacking options and mitigate the impact of injuries. As the transfer deadline looms, the Gunners are determined to secure a deal that would enhance their squad’s depth and quality, ensuring they remain competitive on all fronts this season.
