Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho, currently training away from Manchester United’s first team, has emerged as a potential target for Everton. The winger, alongside other United outcasts like Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony, is under consideration for a move that could align well with David Moyes’ tactical approach. As Everton seeks to bolster their squad ahead of the new season, Sancho’s style of play is believed to be a good match for Moyes’ strategy.
Nevin said: “He would be the one that looks best style-wise. I’m not saying he’s the best player. He did OK at Chelsea. Just OK. At the start of the summer, the Everton manager said that he wanted nine or ten signings, but with just over two weeks to go until his side kick off the new campaign away to Leeds United the Blues have only made four.”
Everton’s transfer activity has been under scrutiny, with the club having secured only four signings despite manager David Moyes’ initial target of nine or ten new players. Among the names linked with the club is Chris Rigg, an 18-year-old who played a pivotal role in Sunderland’s promotion from the Sky Bet Championship. Nevin highlighted the potential benefits of such a move for Rigg, suggesting that Everton could provide a conducive environment for his development under Moyes’ guidance.
Nevin said: “Most of the time when an 18-year-old has broken through, you think, ‘Right, stick with your team and enjoy it, learn your trade, all that sort of stuff.’ Now and again, there’s a certain type of manager that if you move to him, you’re going to be okay. Everton actually sounds alright to me. Here is David Moyes, he’ll work OK with you. If you work with him, he’ll make you a better player.”
Everton is undergoing a significant transition, with the first team moving to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and Everton Women entering Goodison Park. The club’s strategy emphasizes acquiring young talent with potential resale value, a shift from previous practices that have not yielded the desired financial outcomes. Nevin’s comments underscore the importance of strategic player acquisitions that align with Everton’s long-term vision.
Nevin said: “Stay with Sunderland or sign for Everton and go back on loan. But I just get a feeling that for Everton he’s the type of player Everton need. They need to build that way for too long and for a long time. We’ve been building, buying players that in the end, there’s no resale value and Everton need that. So unless they produce their own, they get players in and then they’re worn out and then they go. It’s no good. That doesn’t work.”
As Everton navigates this pivotal period, the club’s focus on integrating young, promising players like Sancho and Rigg could be key to achieving sustainable success. This approach not only aims to enhance the team’s competitive edge but also addresses the financial challenges the club has faced in recent years.
