Morgan Gibbs White
Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has expressed his belief that Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White will depart the club next summer. Despite signing a three-year contract extension last Saturday, the 25-year-old midfielder has been at the center of transfer discussions, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly triggering a £60 million release clause earlier this month. However, the move fell through, and Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, secured a new deal for Gibbs-White, keeping him at the City Ground until 2028.
Gabby Agbonlahor said: “I’m not being funny, if you want to stay at a football club you don’t sign three-year contracts nowadays when you’re 25 years of age – you sign a five-year one or more. The fact it’s a three-year contract, that says to me this time next year he will probably be gone.”
Agbonlahor added: “No. I think he’ll go to the biggest club that wants him. I think he’d say: ‘I’m devoed (devastated) that I didn’t go to Spurs.’ Of course he would. He obviously wanted to go to Spurs. Hasn’t happened. The support from the fans, my teammates, and everyone around the club has been unbelievable. I believe in what we’re building here – and with the backing of Mr Marinakis and the enormous ambition he has, I want to be part of making something special.”
Agbonlahor’s comments reflect the ongoing speculation surrounding Gibbs-White’s future, despite the player’s recent commitment to Nottingham Forest. The north London club’s interest in the midfielder was evident when they triggered his release clause, but Forest managed to retain their star player by offering a new contract. The move was seen as a significant coup for the club, with Marinakis playing a crucial role in the negotiations.
Gibbs-White’s decision to stay at Forest highlights his belief in the club’s vision and ambition under Marinakis’s leadership. The club has expressed a strong desire to build their future around the talented midfielder, who embodies the qualities they seek in their players: talent, ambition, and fearlessness.
As the new season progresses, all eyes will be on Gibbs-White to see if he continues to be a central figure in Forest’s plans or if Agbonlahor’s prediction of a departure next summer comes to fruition.
