Danny Welbeck
Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck has expressed his determination for the club to surpass last season’s achievements and push for European qualification. Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League last term, Welbeck believes the team can aim higher in the upcoming season. With no European football commitments, the experienced forward sees this as a potential advantage for Brighton in their domestic campaign.
Danny Welbeck said: “Eighth place is not enough for us. We want to keep pushing higher. We want to see if we can eventually get into Europe again. We have got to look higher and that is the goal, to beat last season. For the young players it’s, ‘You’ve had a year so now we push on’. For the older players, we have got to keep on raising the bar, raising the standards and try to push this football club forward.”
Welbeck continued: “Who knows? I don’t think anybody could have predicted how it would be last season with teams that were down there and how things went. There are always a few surprises. This year there are a lot of teams in Europe so they are going to be having to play two games a week. We have got to use that to our advantage. We are not going to be in Europe but we can prepare and be well recovered from game to game in the Premier League. That is going to be the biggest challenge, to make sure we are ready to get three points every weekend.”
Welbeck’s comments reflect a clear ambition within the Brighton camp to build on their previous success. The absence of European fixtures could indeed provide the Seagulls with a strategic edge, allowing them more time for recovery and preparation between Premier League matches. This could be particularly beneficial given the congested schedules faced by clubs participating in European competitions. Brighton’s focus will be on capitalizing on this advantage to secure consistent results and potentially break into the top tier of English football.
As Brighton prepares for the new season, Welbeck’s leadership and experience will be crucial in guiding both young and veteran players to elevate their performance levels. The team’s aspirations are not only to maintain their position but to challenge for a spot in European football, highlighting the club’s growth and ambition under the current management.
