The Wolverhampton Wanderers community is mourning the loss of young fan Cejai Owen, who tragically passed away following a sudden asthma attack at his home on July 9. The 12-year-old’s unexpected death has left his family and friends devastated, especially as it comes just weeks after the sudden passing of his grandfather, Philip Blunt, a Perry Barr greyhound trainer.
Kayleigh Blunt said: “It’s been very difficult as we lost my dad four weeks before Cejai. Cejai was very cheeky and always had a smile on his face. He was always the joker of his siblings. He was a main part of our family. He was our world. He meant the world to us. Life isn’t going to be the same without him. I didn’t know he had so many friends. He was a popular boy. That support has meant a lot.”
Kayleigh Blunt also described the tragic circumstances: “He went at school and came back home fine and he just had a massive sudden asthma attack at home. He’s had asthma attacks all his life, but never that bad. We were doing CPR on him before the ambulance came. He was in my arms.”
Claire Darby, a family friend, expressed her condolences: “This is a very, very sad story – but one I need to support. Kay Blunt sadly lost her beautiful 12-year-old Cejai. He had a massive asthma attack and they couldn’t save him. Ceijai was such a beautiful soul and I really mean that his mom raised him as a good boy.”
Cejai was not only a beloved member of his family but also a popular figure among his peers. Known for his cheeky demeanor and ever-present smile, he was a central figure in his family, bringing joy and laughter to those around him. In addition to his love for football, Cejai enjoyed playing Roblox with his brother, showcasing his playful spirit.
The loss of Cejai has been compounded by the recent passing of his grandfather, Philip Blunt, who was a well-known greyhound trainer. Philip’s sudden death, just four weeks prior, has left the family grappling with immense grief. Kayleigh Blunt, Cejai’s mother, highlighted the significant role her father played in their lives, noting his love for greyhounds and his presence as a supportive figure for the family.
In the wake of this tragedy, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched to assist with Cejai’s funeral expenses. The GoFundMe page aims to raise £6,500 to alleviate the financial burden on the family during this difficult time. The campaign has seen an outpouring of support from the community, with many paying tribute to Cejai’s “beautiful soul.”
The loss of Cejai Owen is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the profound impact one individual can have on a community. As the family navigates this challenging period, the support of friends and loved ones continues to provide solace and strength.
