Facundo Buonanotte
Facundo Buonanotte is determined to establish himself as a pivotal figure in Brighton’s attacking line-up following his return from a loan spell at Leicester City. The Argentine midfielder has been actively showcasing his skills during pre-season, aiming to make a significant impact in an area where Brighton already has ample talent. Despite facing challenges at Leicester, including reduced playing time after Ruud van Nistelrooy’s appointment, Buonanotte is focused on adapting to the Premier League and securing regular minutes.
Facundo Buonanotte said: “The passion with which I live football. There are always things to improve. I need to keep adapting to the league, improving details. I keep trying to work hard every day in training.”
Buonanotte’s versatility was evident as he operated on the right flank against Stoke, a position where he has previously excelled, notably scoring against Chelsea. However, the Argentine expressed his preference for playing behind the striker, a role known as ‘enganche’ in Argentina. With competition from players like Brajan Gruda and Charalampos Kostoulas, Buonanotte acknowledges the need for consistent Premier League action to further his development.
He said: “It was difficult, especially at the start when I arrived. Especially the language, then the way of life, the food. It was hard but I’m here for more than two years and I think I’m over the adaptation. Now it’s about adapting to the style of play the coach wants, getting minutes. The most important thing is getting minutes.”
Reflecting on his time at Leicester, Buonanotte credited Premier League legend Jamie Vardy for aiding his adaptation process. Vardy’s welcoming gesture left a lasting impression on the young midfielder, who valued the support during a challenging period marked by Leicester’s relegation.
Buonanotte said: “When I went to Leicester he was the first one who came up to me and spoke to me. He showed me around all the facilities at the club. It was a detail which for me meant a lot. I had just arrived, they were all English, I knew nothing about the club. He came up to me and I valued that a lot. It was difficult. No one likes to be relegated. But what I take from that is that the group, despite relegation, always looked forward and tried to improve. We couldn’t achieve our aim but we gave our all.”
Buonanotte’s ambition to become a key player for Brighton is clear, as he continues to work diligently to adapt to the Premier League’s demands. His experience at Leicester, coupled with his passion and determination, positions him as a promising talent eager to make his mark in English football.
