Djordje Petrovic
AFC Bournemouth have announced the acquisition of Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea, securing his services on a five-year contract for a total fee of £25 million. Petrovic, who spent the previous season on loan at Strasbourg in Ligue 1, played a pivotal role in the club’s successful campaign, earning the player of the season award as Strasbourg finished seventh and qualified for the UEFA Conference League.
Djordje Petrovic said: “I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level. Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it.”
Petrovic’s journey began with 78 appearances for the Serbian side before moving to the MLS with New England Revolution in 2022. During his time in the MLS, he quickly made a name for himself by becoming the fastest player to make five penalty saves. In August 2023, Petrovic joined Chelsea for a reported £12.5 million plus add-ons. He made his Premier League debut as a substitute in December of that year, stepping in for the injured Robert Sanchez at Everton. Over his tenure at Chelsea, Petrovic made 23 appearances in the Premier League, achieving five clean sheets.
Last summer, Petrovic returned to France, playing for the BlueCo-owned club Strasbourg, where he featured in 31 matches in the French top flight. His performances in France have evidently caught the attention of Bournemouth, who have been actively seeking to strengthen their goalkeeping options following the sale of Mark Travers to Everton earlier this week.
AFC Bournemouth spokesperson said: “The opportunity to sign a player of his calibre in the market was one we had to take, particularly given how vital the position of a goalkeeper is. We have been looking for the right talent to invest in within this area of the pitch and Djordje has very impressive qualities, as well as a lot of experience for someone who is still young.”
With Petrovic’s arrival, Bournemouth aims to enhance their defensive capabilities and build on their recent successes. The club’s decision to invest in a promising young goalkeeper with international experience underscores their commitment to competing at the highest level in the Premier League.
