Joao Gomes
Wolverhampton Wanderers defender, who played every minute under the guidance of new manager Vitor Pereira last season, has expressed his satisfaction with his role in the team. The player was a key figure in the left centre-back position during the latter half of the campaign and is optimistic about the future under Pereira’s leadership.
João Gomes said: “With Vitor, I’ve been playing a lot and I’ve been enjoying it. I’ve been in that position and we’ve been working hard trying to put the ideas that he shows on the training ground to the pitch. But, for me, I just want to play and help the team, and, if I play, I will always give my best.”
João Gomes added: “In defence, we all understand each other well. Agba (Emmanuel Agbadou) came during the season, but he quickly started doing well. It’s good to have some people like that who can help you and understand as well.”
He continued: “Right now, everybody needs to go on holidays, relax, and not think about football, because we had a tough season. Since the beginning, it’s been tough, especially mentally. It’s good for us all to go away on holidays, but as well, we’ve got to start to prepare for next season. We want to do a better pre-season with Vitor, so we can start well in the Premier League, which is very important.”
The defender’s comments highlight the positive atmosphere within the team and the strong understanding among the defensive unit. Emmanuel Agbadou’s integration into the squad was particularly noted as a beneficial addition, enhancing the team’s defensive capabilities. The emphasis on a well-prepared pre-season under Pereira indicates the team’s ambition to make a strong start in the upcoming Premier League season. As players take a well-deserved break, the focus will soon shift to building on the foundations laid this season to achieve greater success in the top flight.
