Josko Gvardiol
Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol has expressed his preference to remain in the central defensive role as the new season unfolds. With the arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis in January, manager Pep Guardiola has multiple options at his disposal for the club’s defensive lineup. Gvardiol, however, is keen to solidify his position at the heart of City’s defense.
Josko Gvardiol said: “It’s quite difficult to talk about my position. In general, I like to play more central but even if I play outside is something I can do. Everyone knows what kind of person and player I am, I give my best no matter what position I play. I’m still young, I’m happy here with you guys, I think I still have a lot of space for improvement. Let’s go day by day, game by game.”
Gvardiol added: “It means a lot, especially after a season we had last season. I’m grateful, but football is not an individual sport. I prefer to win a bit different trophies but in general, I can be happy with this and happy to be part of this club. Hopefully, this season, we change something. There is a big opportunity to win some good trophies, and we can all celebrate and enjoy those moments.”
Gvardiol’s comments reflect a player focused on both personal development and team success. As Manchester City prepares for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which will feature top clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich, Gvardiol’s versatility and commitment to the team will be crucial. The tournament, taking place from June 14 to July 13, offers City a chance to claim international glory, with fans able to watch all matches live on DAZN.
Gvardiol’s dedication to his craft and his team-first mentality are evident as he looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. His ambition to win collective trophies underscores his commitment to Manchester City’s success, as he aims to contribute significantly to the club’s quest for silverware.
