England striker Alan Shearer destroyed Swindon with two well-taken goals, in front of national boss Graham Taylor, to boost his chances of a recall against Holland.
But while Shearer continued his fine comeback, Blackburn suffered bad fortune with Paul Warhurst, a £2.7 million signing from Sheffield Wednesday was taken off on a stretcher with a suspected broken leg following a 25th-minute collision with Terry Fenwick.
Swindon did equalize in the 31st minute via Shaun Taylor but Blackburn stepped up a gear in the second half to put two more goals via Shearer’s second and Stuart Ripley’s composed finish. Digby, the Swindon goalkeeper tried to defy the visitors with excellent saves from Gallacher, Shearer and Graham Le Saux but the visitors had the last laugh in the end.
