Stuart Pearce has commended Nuno Espirito Santo for his composed response to Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis’ unexpected pitch entry following the club’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the City Ground. Pearce, a legendary figure at Nottingham Forest, described the manager’s approach to the situation as ‘magnificent,’ highlighting it as the ideal way to manage such challenges.
Stuart Pearce said: “Magnificent. I tell you what, we go on all these coaching courses when you’re doing your license, but nothing prepares you. I thought on the pitch, Nuno’s demeanour was good, and I think when he walked off and was in front of the cameras, I think he dealt with it brilliantly, defused it really well, and that’s what you’ve got to do. To be fair, the owner’s an emotional man. He’s got that reputation. He wants the club to do well. But it shouldn’t be viewed that way, it should be European football this year – magnificent.”
The incident occurred after a match that ended in a disappointing draw, further diminishing Nottingham Forest’s prospects in the Champions League race. Marinakis’ decision to approach the pitch to speak with Nuno Espirito Santo was met with speculation, which the club has firmly denied, labeling it as ‘fake news.’ The club emphasized the importance of resisting hasty judgments and underscored Marinakis’ deep emotional investment in the team.
A Nottingham Forest statement read: “That is why he was so personally and emotionally invested in the situation that unfolded at the City Ground on Sunday. His reaction was one of deep care, responsibility, and emotional investment in one of our own. He didn’t just see it as an isolated incident, but as something that reflected the values and unity of the entire team. In moments like that he demonstrates his leadership, not just through words, but through action and presence.”
The club further clarified that there was no confrontation between Marinakis and Nuno, attributing the owner’s actions to instinctive concern for a player who was injured during the match. Nottingham Forest urged public figures to refrain from spreading misinformation and to prioritize player welfare over sensationalism.
The statement continued: “In light of this, we urge former coaches and players, and other public figures in the game, to resist the urge to rush to judgement and fake news online, especially when they do not have the full facts and context. Baseless and ill-informed outrage for the purposes of personal social media traction serves no one — least of all the injured player.”
Nottingham Forest reiterated their commitment to the mental and physical well-being of their players and coaching staff, stressing that these should take precedence over media narratives and personal agendas. The club called for unity in supporting those who risk their health on the pitch each week.
