Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, as speculation mounts ahead of the summer transfer window. The Reds are said to have met with Wirtz, his father Hans-Joachim, who also acts as his agent, and his mother, Karin, during a recent visit to England. According to The Athletic, Liverpool’s interest in the attacking midfielder is well-established, and they are prepared to explore a deal that could exceed £100 million. Wirtz’s performances for Bayer Leverkusen have attracted significant attention from top clubs, with Bayern Munich and Manchester City also linked to the talented youngster.
Florian Wirtz said: “I’m pretty lucky that I have so many excellent clubs right on my doorstep and that I can now play for one of the best clubs in Germany and Europe. The drawback would still be having to fend off rivals Man City, who with the German national’s signing would replace Kevin de Bruyne and threaten to fight for the Reds’ Premier League crown next term.”
Wirtz added: “I keep seeing posts about me on social media. Every now and then, I have to laugh when people write about where I’m supposedly playing next season. Nobody but me can know that. That’s why I don’t pay any attention to such news and deal with them in a pretty chill way.”
Florian Wirtz’s potential move to Liverpool could significantly impact the Premier League landscape. His addition would bolster Liverpool’s midfield options and provide a creative spark that could help the team challenge for domestic and European honors. However, the competition for his signature is fierce, with Manchester City reportedly viewing Wirtz as a potential successor to Kevin de Bruyne.
The player’s comments suggest he is unfazed by the speculation surrounding his future, maintaining a relaxed approach to the rumors. Nevertheless, his presence in England for meetings with Liverpool indicates that a move could be on the horizon. Should Liverpool secure Wirtz’s services, it would represent a significant coup for the club, given the interest from other top European teams.
