Tottenham boss Ossie Ardiles predicted that Vinny Samways could be a world cup sensation for England. As the skilful midfielder prepared to put pen to paper on a new five-year deal, Ardiles urged England manager Graham Taylor not to forget his man.
Samways’ decision to commit himself at Spurs came as a major boost to the Tottenham manager as he prepared for a crucial clash with Everton.
Ossie Ardiles said “(He is) one of the best midfielders in the country. The deal is nearly finalized. It is good news for me and the club. It is no secret how highly I rate Vinny. You always want to keep your best players. I would certainly recommend him for England. He could be a replacement for Gazza. I’ve told him to play a little differently this year, just in front of the back four but he’s very capable of playing anywhere in the midfield. People underrate him and say he doesn’t tackle but he does a tremendous amount of work.”
