Nuno Espirito Santo
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has called on his players to overcome their recent FA Cup semi-final defeat as they prepare for a crucial Premier League encounter against Brentford. The Reds suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester City at Wembley, ending their cup run, but with a vital league fixture on the horizon, Nuno is keen to shift focus entirely to securing Champions League qualification.
Nuno Espirito Santo said: “The disappointment of not reaching the final of the FA Cup is the same as when we lose a game in the Premier League. It is not a good feeling. What we have to do is react. We have to understand that sometimes we have to grieve, give time to that and then approach the game as life – you fall down, you get up again and you go. Everybody has to help each other. In the good moments and the bad moments, we are there for all of us. My role is to try to make sure this sadness doesn’t stay long in our feelings. Get over it as quickly as possible because we have so much to fight for – huge and important things to fight for – starting against Brentford. We cannot stay in Wembley. It’s finished. Over. Let’s go. That’s my role.”
Nuno added: “All the games are going to be very, very important for a lot of teams involved in this fight. We have one more (extra), let’s try to perform well. We are back in the City Ground, in front of our fans. It’s a big help for us. We have never stopped believing, no matter what happens. Again, it is up to us to react and perform. All the games are the biggest games of our career, this is how we approach it. We are only thinking about Brentford now. It’s in our hands, that’s a big advantage.”
The Premier League race for Champions League spots is intensifying, with Nottingham Forest currently sitting three points ahead of Aston Villa, who are in seventh place. A victory against Brentford would propel Forest back to third in the table, reinforcing their position in the top four. The match at the City Ground on Thursday is not just another fixture; it represents a pivotal moment in Forest’s campaign to secure a place in Europe’s elite competition.
Nuno’s emphasis on resilience and collective effort highlights his strategic approach to overcoming setbacks. His leadership will be crucial as Forest navigates the final stretch of the season, where every point is critical. The support from the home crowd at the City Ground is expected to be a significant factor, providing the team with the encouragement needed to maintain their momentum.
As the season draws to a close, Nottingham Forest’s ability to stay focused and capitalize on their opportunities will determine their success. The encounter with Brentford is the first of several decisive matches, and Nuno’s message is clear: the team must leave their Wembley woes behind and concentrate on the challenges ahead.
