Coventry & Ipswich Play Out an Entertaining 2-2 Draw
This was a match between 8th and 11th in the table only separated by a point. And in a match which ebbed and flowed several times, in the end both the teams shared the points. Both the teams went ahead in the match and were pegged back eventually.
Leeds stunned at home by struggling Nottingham Forest in a 1-4 drubbing
Roy Keane had finally been liberated from his back four duties and he responded in style by putting two goals past Leeds who looked hapless and short of ideas as Brian Clough second big scalp in that week. After beating Spurs in the Coca Cola cup earlier that week, Forest stunned the defending champions with four goals.
Middlesborough upset the mighty Blackburn 3-2 to halt Rovers’ title challenge
In an incredible period of 15 minutes, John Hendrie probably dented the biggest blow to Blackburn’s title chances that season. Rovers were leading by a goal before Hendrie scored an amazing hat trick within 15 minutes which stunned Kenny Dalglish’s men. Even a late gift of an own goal wasn’t enough as the Teesside club won 3-2.
QPR win 3-2 against Oldham in a thrilling home victory
After three successive defeats, QPR brought their season back on track with a narrow 3-2 victory over 18th placed Oldham. The Londoners made a fast start as they went 3-0 up in just over half an hour. Two goals on either side of the break did bring the Manchester-based side back in the game but the second half had no further goals as QPR secured all three points.
Manchester United win third in a row as they ran out 2-1 winners in the Manchester Derby
Manchester United climbed to sixth in the table and more importantly just one point behind second-placed Blackburn Rovers as Mark Hughes and Paul Ince goals were enough to secure all three points and bragging rights in the Manchester Derby. A mix up between Schmeichel and Steve Bruce did allow City a goal back but it wasn’t enough in the end.
