Son Heung-min discussed the arrival of new Tottenham signing Yang Min-hyeok and how he planned to support him both on and off the pitch. The context was that Son wanted to help Yang transition into the team without adding extra pressure on the young player.
Son Heung-min said, “Yeah, I’ll try my best. Obviously some situations he will have to handle by himself as I can’t help him like I’m his dad. But I am going to try to help him both on and off the pitch. I hope he can bring some great football and great talent to the club so I can’t wait to see him playing with us.”
Son was asked about the expectations for Yang and chose to minimize the pressure on the young player due to his inexperience and the challenges of moving from the K League to the Premier League. This context explained Son’s intention to shield Yang from high expectations early on in his career.
Son Heung-min said, “I don’t want to give him too big pressure as he’s 18. Nowadays I think people are getting excited too early about a player so I want to keep him very quiet. He works hard, I hope he works hard, and he can help the team which is very important. Obviously he’s fast, he’s scored a lot of goals in the K League but there is a massive difference between the K League and Premier League.”
Ange Postecoglou addressed Yang’s arrival and the importance of him settling into the club before being registered as a player. Postecoglou’s comments provided context on how Yang would integrate into the team ahead of his official start.
Ange Postecoglou said, “Yeah he has been in the building the last couple of days sort of having a good look around. Obviously we can’t register him until January 1st so he won’t train with us but I always feel it’s good. I had this experience at Celtic with the Asian lads we brought in, the Japanese and Korean boys, bringing them in before Christmas which allows them to settle in, especially off the field.”
Postecoglou emphasized the benefits of allowing young international players to settle in before fully integrating them into the team structure. This provided context to why acclimatization period was crucial for Yang’s development.
Ange Postecoglou said, “That way by the time we get to register them in a couple of weeks they are already settled and can train fully. It’s good to see him around.”
