Kai Havertz expressed his thoughts following Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Everton on Saturday. The Gunners had an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the Premier League after Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham. It was Arsenal’s second draw in six days, accumulating only 13 points from a possible 27 in their last nine matches. Following their opening 16 games, Arsenal’s total of 30 points was six fewer than last season and 10 fewer than the campaign before, in both of which they finished runner-up to Manchester City.
Kai Havertz said “We try to look at ourselves. Win games, get points. I think that’s the most frustrating point against Everton, that we didn’t do that. Just the little details in the box, we didn’t manage to do them. We didn’t find the final pass. Sometimes I think the positioning in the box wasn’t perfect, so we have to look at that and make it better in the next game. We try to be positive, stick together as a group and make it better next time.”
Mikel Arteta shared his reaction after the same match. He was particularly disheartened by the team’s inability to capitalize on opportunities, highlighting the difficulty of execution in the crucial areas near the goal.
Mikel Arteta said “Very disappointed. When you do what we’ve done against them today, you have to win the game. At the end this is football – the hardest thing is to do what we have to do in those last 20-25 meters. Honestly it’s difficult to ask something else from the team. OK, individually can we do things a bit better and with a little bit more quality and deliver that magic moment when it’s necessary? Yes. But that is not easy.”
