Ange Postecoglou spoke about the injury situation concerning Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, emphasizing the uncertainty and lack of clarity regarding their injuries and timelines for their return.
Ange Postecoglou said “Not much better. With the weekend’s fallout, Romero and Van de Ven, we’re still getting clarity over the injuries but we’re going to be without them again. At the moment we’re still trying to get timelines on those guys so I wouldn’t put a time on it yet.”
Ange Postecoglou commented on Guglielmo Vicario’s injury situation, explaining the long recovery process following surgery and the importance of not rushing to set a timeline for his return.
Ange Postecoglou said “It’s not going to be weeks. It’ll be months. With surgery, there are certain timelines. I don’t like giving timelines so early in the process, as it puts undue pressure on the player… Once he starts getting [on the training pitch], we’ll have a clearer idea.”
Ange Postecoglou addressed the need for a scan to assess Ben Davies’ injury severity and expressed that it was too early to determine the outcome.
Ange Postecoglou said “Ben, too early [to tell]. He’ll go for a scan today.”
Ange Postecoglou explained why Brennan Johnson was substituted during the match against Chelsea, mentioning that Johnson was not feeling well and was replaced for precautionary reasons.
Ange Postecoglou said “Brennan just didn’t feel well. He didn’t feel well at half-time, but he wanted to give it a go. He just wasn’t feeling 100 per cent, so I had to take him off.”
Ange Postecoglou provided an update on Richarlison’s injury, highlighting the need for caution in his recovery process and the hope of his return in the New Year.
Ange Postecoglou said “Richarlison, hopefully, he’ll be back in the New Year but, again, similar to Micky (van de Ven), we’ve got to be careful every step of the way.”
Ange Postecoglou addressed Wilson Odobert’s hamstring injury, noting the need for a conservative approach due to the reoccurrence, and refrained from setting a specific return date.
Ange Postecoglou said “No, no real time but it’s significant, so he’ll be out. Again, because it’s a reoccurrence we’ll have to be a bit conservative. I’d say a similar timeframe to his last one, maybe a bit longer, but it’s one of those where you don’t want to put a timeframe on it because it will really depend how quickly he heals from it.”
Ange Postecoglou talked about Mikey Moore’s absence from the team due to illness and emphasized the importance of protecting the young player’s privacy and considering his age during the recovery process.
Ange Postecoglou said “I don’t like talking about what they have and what they don’t have. It’s nothing serious, but you know, he’s 17. I mean, like, if it’s your 17-year-old son, you don’t want everyone to know what he has or hasn’t got. It’s nothing serious. It’s nothing long-term. It’s just that he’s a young lad and he’s only 17, and he’s a big part of this football club, and we will protect him, and we’ll be guided by how he feels, how he recovers from, you know, an illness. Like I said, young people will recover at different rates. He’ll be back. He’s still here. He’s part of what we’re doing, and he’ll be back in the next few weeks, but again he’s missed a lot of football. So whether we bring him back the first team or he needs to play [for the U21s], we’ve got to bear in mind that he’s 17.”
