Gary O’Neil, the Wolves boss, was visibly frustrated during a match after several contentious VAR decisions went against his team. Wolves were desperate for a win and were competing against West Ham at the London Stadium, hoping to escape from 19th place in the Premier League. However, West Ham secured a victory, which left O’Neil incensed, especially with a denied penalty and other perceived fouls that went unpenalized, adding to the pressure on him.
Gary O’Neil said “I think there’s four. I don’t think it’s a corner, the corner they score from.”
O’Neil was further frustrated post-match when discussing what he believed were clear refereeing oversights, including a foul in the build-up to West Ham’s second goal and a denied penalty that seemed obvious to him. He felt these missed calls were unjust and contributed to his team’s loss.
Gary O’Neil said “There’s a blatant foul in the build up to West Ham’s second goal on [Santiago] Bueno in the middle of the box, unbelievably blatant. Really surprised that wasn’t given first then checked. Then the penalty is a blatant penalty, Emerson on a yellow card, tracking back, has a big shove into the back of Guedes which causes him to stand on ball. Disappointed they didn’t go our way but we have our own battles to fight.”
