Pep Guardiola discussed the readiness of players returning from injury. Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic have rejoined Manchester City’s squad and are available for their Champions League match against Juventus. However, Nathan Ake and Manu Akanji will be on the sidelines longer, and City is missing five players for this match despite Foden and Kovacic traveling to Turin.
Pep Guardiola said “I don’t think [they are ready to start]. Maybe a few minutes, [for Foden]. Kova, I don’t think so. It’s nice to have them back here in the training sessions.”
Pep Guardiola talked about the team’s defensive challenges, with Akanji, Stones, and Ake out. Only four senior defenders are available for the clash with Juventus, which will challenge Guardiola’s defensive lineup, especially since Rico Lewis will be suspended for the upcoming match against Manchester United.
Pep Guardiola said “Nathan will be longer than Manu. It is the same [challenge] we had in the last few months, nothing changes.”
