Jamie Carragher was analyzing Tottenham’s tactics under manager Ange Postecoglou in the aftermath of their collapse against Chelsea, and he made his observations while discussing the game on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. He highlighted a key moment leading up to Jadon Sancho’s goal that brought the score to 1-2.
Jamie Carragher said “This is one of the points I made a lot yesterday about Ange’s teams. You’ll love the way he wants to play the game. It’s so exciting, but I keep on saying game state, and the fact for me is, you don’t play the same way as you do on minute one to maybe minute 90, and also, what’s the scoreline? This game has been one of the fastest games I’ve seen not even just this season for five or six years now.”
Continuing his analysis, Carragher criticized the decision-making of Spurs players when facing Chelsea’s buildup play, particularly concerning how they reacted to the goalkeeper’s handling of the ball.
Jamie Carragher said “So the ball now goes back from Badiashile to the goalkeeper now as it stops to the goalkeeper, Dominic Solanke should not be pressing that goalkeeper. He’s got too much time on the ball. This is the time to say, ‘okay, we just want to sit here. Okay, you can play a few passes around the back, but we’re happy here now.’ He [Solanke] makes a mistake but there should be some information from behind him.”
