Morgan Gibbs-White admitted he was surprised when his goal took Old Trafford by storm. He had managed to regain the lead for the Midlands’ side against Manchester United with a low shot that seemed to be heading straight for Andre Onana but swerved at the last moment and found the net, giving Forest an unexpected 2-1 lead. Gibbs-White confessed he didn’t anticipate scoring from such a distance, assuming it would be an easy save for Onana.
Morgan Gibbs-White said “I didn’t at all to be fair, I don’t wanna discredit Onana, he’s a great keeper, incredible goalkeeper. But you know, you count them don’t you”
Despite Onana’s mistake not aiding United’s cause, Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim refused to blame the Cameroonian. After the defeat, the Portuguese coach defended Onana by highlighting his contributions in previous matches.
Ruben Amorim said “He (Onana) saved us a lot of times so we have to find a way to turn it around and score two goals to help our keeper for the way he, for example, saved us at Ipswich. We already knew it would be a long journey but we want to win. It’s a massive job. We need to improve on a lot of things.”
